Tour of Chaamse Bos and Boswachterij Dorst

Your route starts at Villa Vredelust. The Bels Lijntje, a former railway line, takes you smoothly to Riel. A little later you drive through the Chaamse Bos. This was once a rugged area with sand drifts and wet heath, but between 1900 and 1935 the area was cleared and planted with Scots pine. The fens were drained and where the area was too wet, grasslands were allowed to grow. Many Scots pines were also planted. The result is a surprisingly varied forest. What peace you experience here! Further on you pass through Bolberg, a beautiful hamlet on the edge of Bavel. The extensive Dorst Forestry mainly consists of Scots pine trees that were planted at the beginning of the 19th century. Remnants of heather and deciduous forests can be seen in the area.
