Your route starts at Restaurant Aan De Hoeve, with a nice piece of Limburgse vlaai on the beautiful terrace. At the Rothenbach you can view the Gitstapper mill from 1377. The watermill is fed by the water of the Rothenbach or Rode brook, which flows into the Roer further on. The Rothenbach forms a border between Germany (Nord-Rhein-Westfalen) and the Netherlands (Limburg). A shop is located at the Gitstappermolen, which sells its own bread and cake mixes that have been processed in the Gitsstappermolen. You can easily walk into the Meinweg National Park here. The area is known for its unique terraced landscape. These terraces were created over the course of tens of thousands of years due to the erosion of the Meuse and three fault lines in the earth's crust. You walk along dense old forests and stream valleys.
