Description

Your route starts at Restaurant Aan De Hoeve, with a nice piece of Limburg pie on the beautiful terrace. At the Rothenbach you can view the Gitstappermolen from 1377. The water mill is fed by the water of the Rothenbach or Red Brook, which flows into the Roer further on. The Rothenbach forms a border between Germany (Nord-Rhein-Westphalia) and the Netherlands (Limburg). There is a shop at the Gitstapperhof that sells its own bread and cake mixes that have been processed in the Gitstappermolen. You can walk straight into the Meinweg National Park. The area is known for its unique terraced landscape. These terraces were created over tens of thousands of years by the erosion of the Meuse and three fault lines in the earth's crust. You walk along dense old forests and stream valleys.
