Provided by: Groots Genieten
This beautiful walking route leads you through Oudewater, the oldest city in the Green Heart. You will also discover the surrounding polder area, through which the Hollandse IJssel meanders so beautifully. You will soon pass the monument of Oudewater: the town hall on the Visbrug, with an impressive staircase in Renaissance style. Above the windows of the first floor you can see the coats of arms of Oudewater, Delft and Alkmaar. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, Oudewater was an important producer of rope, and hemp is still grown as a raw material for rope. Via the Tiendwegweteringen you arrive at the Hollandse IJssel, where you have a beautiful view of the rippling water.
