The LF Waterline Route combines heritage and nature. The historic Dutch water lines were constructed to ward off the enemy by flooding enormous areas of land (inundation). Water as a means of defense, that could only have been invented by the Dutch! These unique chains of military structures have truly enriched the landscape. The route is 410 km long and leads from Edam to Bergen op Zoom. You will discover the Defense Line of Amsterdam, the New Dutch Waterline and the West Brabant part of the Zuiderwaterlinie. You will still see numerous inundation channels, batteries and line dikes, attractive forts and fortified towns. Everywhere along the route you can experience the wonderful atmosphere of these historic places. A fascinating route if you want to know more about the history of the water lines. It all comes to life during this tour!
