Tour of Twickel, Delden and Twentekanaal

Your route starts at Hotel Restaurant Wapen Van Delden. Twickel Castle originally dates from the sixteenth century. The Twickel estate is famous for its lush gardens and park. The farms that belong to the estate can be recognized by their white shutters with black edges. On the estate you can admire a collection of citrus trees that is unique by Dutch standards in the orangery. In Delden you will see beautiful monuments such as the Oude Blasius Church. Delden is mentioned as early as 1036 and there was a church there as early as 1118. In 1333, the small fortified city, which had two city gates, was granted city rights. Here you walk over the Delden moraine, which extends from the Twickel estate to the area south of the Twente Canal. The cover sand relief here is still reasonably intact and representative.
