Mill Route: through the German forests

Your route starts at Restaurant Aan De Hoeve, where you can enjoy a delicious slice of Limburg pie on the lovely terrace. Immediately after your departure, take a look at the Gitstappermolen mill. This watermill is fed by the waters of the Rothenbach, also known as the Red Brook, which flows further into the Roer River. The Rothenbach forms the border between Germany (North Rhine-Westphalia) and the Netherlands (Limburg). At the Gitstappermolen mill, there's a shop selling homemade bread and cake mixes. This route will take you to the beautiful nature of the Effelder Waldsee, a lovely lake. Here you'll enjoy panoramic views over the water. You'll also hike a stretch through the forests on the German side of the border, between Effeld and the village of Rothenbach.
