Tour of Engelermeer from Vlijmen

Your route starts at IJs & Taartmoment. In Vlijmen you can see some beautiful old buildings. From here you can easily walk to the Engelermeer. This lake is probably the remains of an old channel of the Meuse from before the thirteenth century. Here you will find a mixture of swamp forests, reed beds and cultivated land, close to the city. You can swim in this sand extraction lake. In a beautiful location, almost in the Engelermeer, you will see the special water sports pavilion Engelermeer. A circular building, made of cold-rolled steel from car wrecks. The bird and nature conservation department Den Bosch has constructed a wall along the Engelermeer with 200 nest holes for the endangered sand martin. The steep walls of the Engelermeer were always a popular breeding ground for this bird, but the nesting sites disappeared due to the excavation work.
