Tour of Het Nijenhuis near Heino

Your route starts at Restaurant De Veldhoek. You take a nice walk through and around Heino. You will pass Het Nijenhuis. This estate with castle is the highlight of the route. The castle is now a beautiful art museum: Museum De Fundatie. Until his death in 1984, Dirk Hannema, art collector and former director of the Boijmans Van Beuningen museum, lived in the castle. He left behind an important collection of visual arts. Part of his collection has been on display in the Nijenhuis since 2004. The house also has a sculpture garden where many works of art are displayed. Sculptor Ossip Zadkine, creator of the famous statue 'The Destroyed City' located in Rotterdam, made the sundial in the shape of a love couple in 1929.
