This route takes you past nice places in and around Utrecht: Down Under and Fort bij Vechten. Along the way you will discover the Maarsseveense Plassen, popular with water sports enthusiasts. Near Groenekan you will pass the nineteenth-century Molen Geesina, which has been made operational again. You will also drive through the beautiful rolling forests of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. The village of Austerlitz has a special history, it is named after a famous victory of Napoleon. The village originated at the French Camp Zeist, built in 1804. Fort bij Vechten is part of the fortifications around Utrecht, which in turn is part of the New Dutch Waterline. Below Nieuwegein you will pass a city beach. You will also drive along the water of the Vecht, where you will find many historic country estates such as Slot Zuylen.
