Tour Geertruidenberg and Raamsdonksveer from Oosterhout

This cycle route starts near Oosterhout. First you drive across the Vrachelse Heide, a former heath and drifting sand area that is planted with Scots pine. Here you see the Schans at the Pannenhuis. From 1672 onwards the English, French and Germans fought against the Republic. Republican soldiers withdrew behind the Schans near the Pannenhuis. After a break at Poort naar de Biesbosch you drive to the nice Raamsdonksveer and the Ontired, a flour mill from 1890. Across the leafy banks of the river De Donge is the fortified town of Geertruidenberg. Take a walk here on the picturesque Market Square with its many old merchant houses! Cycle back via the pleasant Oosterhout, past the OLV Abbey. This is still in use by the Benedictines.
