Tour of Woudrichem and Loevestein Castle

Your route starts at De Speeltol. From here you will make a beautiful trip to the beautiful old center of Woudrichem and Loevestein Castle. The historic center of Woudrichem has been beautifully restored. The city has slowly developed since the ninth century from a market square on the rampart. In 1814 the city was included in the New Dutch Waterline, which ran from the Zuiderzee to the Biesbosch. In the event of a threat of war, the waterline could be flooded to protect the western Netherlands. With the arrival of airplanes in the Second World War, this defense tactic had become outdated. The highlight of this trip is Loevestein Castle. Sturdy towers have been built against the main castle, built in red brick. This castle was also part of the New Dutch Waterline.
