Tour of De Velner Castle from Raalte

Your route starts at Hotel Restaurant De Zwaan. From Raalte you take a nice walk to Kasteel De Velner, the location of a historic manor house in the hamlet of Tijenraan. It was founded in 1382. The name of the area is Velnerhoek, referring to the former manor house. The house was already mentioned on a list of vassals in 1380. In 1838 the original building was demolished; only the driveway and part of the canals have been preserved. These canals are still clearly visible, and there is also a farm on the site of the left-hand building from the Middle Ages. The charming Raalte is also worth a visit. In the village you pass the Roman Catholic basilica from 1892 and you see the sixteenth-century Plaskerk.
