Blow out in the Frisian Hornestreek

From Hotel-Restaurant Poort van Franeker, you'll first enter Franeker, a beautiful town full of historic buildings. You'll see, among other things, the Renaissance-style town hall dating from 1594. You'll also pass the world-famous planetarium built by Eise Eisinga between 1774 and 1781, and shortly after, you'll pass Museum Martena, housed in a stins (a manor house) dating from 1498. North of Franeker, you'll drive through the Hornestreek region. Here you'll find a vast landscape of expansive fields and meadows, perfect for a breath of fresh air. In Sexbierum, you'll see the thirteenth-century Sixtus Church, and further along stands the gatehouse of the Liauckama State, demolished in 1824. On the way to Dijkhoek, you can climb the dike for a beautiful view of the Wadden Sea. Via Firdgum and Tzummarum, you'll return to Franeker through the polder.
