Tour of Dwingelderveld from Havelte

Your route starts at LUDIEK eten en slapen. You first cycle through Havelte, a beautiful Drenthe esdorpje, just like Uffelte, which you will pass through a little later. From here you cycle via a beautiful route to National Park Dwingelderveld, the largest marshy heathland in Western Europe. You can cycle beautifully along rolling heathland, drifting sand, forest and dozens of ponds and fens. Rainwater does not soak into the ground here due to an impenetrable layer under the soil surface. This is how more than sixty fens and heathland ponds have been created spread across the area. In the summer, bell heather and heather colour the area beautifully pink and purple. Take a seat on a bench at the Davidsplassen and enjoy the butterflies fluttering around. The Dwingelderveld is the last place in the Netherlands where the rare peat butterflies still occur.
