Description

Your route starts at LUDIEK food and accommodation in Havelte. In the old reclamation villages of Nijeveen and Kolderveen, you'll see beautiful hall-house farms. Picturesque Giethoorn, thanks to its many bridges and waterways, is known as the Venice of the North. The Reformed Church dates from 1645. The surrounding area offers beautiful views of lakes such as Molengat and Bovenwijde. Steenwijk is a former fortified town. It occupied a strategic location during the Eighty Years' War, resulting in frequent battles. The town boasts over 60 national monuments, including De Markt and the city canals. A wooden church building already stood on the site of the Grote Kerk around 900. Later, a stone church was built. The fifteenth-century tower is the oldest surviving structure in Steenwijk.
