Description

Your route starts at LUXURY eating and sleeping in Havelte. In the old mining villages of Nijeveen and Kolderveen you will see beautiful hall farms. The picturesque Giethoorn is known as the Venice of the North thanks to its many bridges and waterways. The Reformed Church dates from 1645. In the area you have beautiful views of lakes such as the Molengat and the Bovenwijde. Steenwijk is a former fortified town. It was located in a strategic location during the Eighty Years' War, which meant that it was the site of regular battles. The town has more than 60 national monuments, including De Markt and the city canals. There was already a wooden church building on the site of the Grote Kerk around 900. Later a stone church was built. The fifteenth-century tower is the oldest existing structure in Steenwijk.
