Stien folger den tidligere Vestsallingbane mellem Skive og Spottrup, sum er 24 km. Banen, der abnede i 1924 og lukkede igen i 1966, fik kun lov til at eksistere i 41 ar. Ruten gar gennem mange af landsbyerne i Vestsalling og kan meget takes deles op i mindre etaper, hvor der ogsa pa turer pauspladser.
