The Oostvaardersplassen, discover the new wilderness

There is only one of the Oostvaardersplassen in the Netherlands. In fact, there is no area in Europe that can be compared to the Oostvaardersplassen. Deep in southern Flevoland, nature created a large swamp area with reed plains, rugged grasslands and ponds. Walk or cycle on one of the many paths of the Oostvaardersplassen and get to know the Netherlands of thousands of years ago.

Geese, spoonbills and cormorants found their way to the Oostvaardersplassen, as did roe deer, foxes, hares, bats and butterflies. Even the white-tailed eagle has been breeding here for a few years now. To develop grasslands, Heck cattle, Konik horses and red deer have been released in the area. Together, these animals live a natural life here, in a place where nature rules.
