National Park De Biesbosch is one of the few freshwater areas in the world where there is an ebb and flow. The idyllic landscape mainly consists of water, reed beds and creeks. Ideal for exploring by boat. But you can also enjoy beautiful walks! With this route you will discover the beauty of the Brabant part of this national park.
The Jantjesplate
You walk right through the newest nature that the Biesbosch has to offer: the Jantjesplaat. The former agricultural polder was transformed in 2013 into a vast wetland with tidal willow forest and drowned polder land. You will see many birds here, such as pintail, teal, widgeon, gadwall and shoveler. If you are lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the osprey and white-tailed eagle that occasionally come to hunt here. So bring your binoculars. And your boots, because it's wet here!
Enjoy the silence
You walk through a rough willow forest that grows on an accretion of land outside the dikes. In this swampy area you have beautiful views over the water of the river Nieuwe Merwede. You also walk on the dike that is wedged between the flooded Jantjesplaat on one side and the water of the Gat van den Hardenhoek on the other. Here you can enjoy the silence and ruggedness of this unique landscape.
