Walking across the Neterselse Heide

Your route starts at the cozy Camping De Couwenberg. From here you can walk straight into the Neterselse Heide. This natural monument is very varied and has more to offer than just heathland, with fens, stream valleys, forests and rivers. You really feel like you are in no man's land in this tranquil and vast area. A wonderful walk to completely clear your head. The Neterselse Heide is named after the nearby Netersel, one of the so-called Eight Beatitudes: Eersel, Duizel, Steensel, Knegsel, Wintelre, Reusel, Hulsel and Netersel. In the past they were called'the selligheden\\\', or'the beatitudes\\\'. Dutch soldiers who were stationed here during the Belgian Revolution scornfully referred to the villages as 'the wretchedness'. The beautiful old villages are typical of the Brabantse Kempen with their many long-fronted farms.
