Tour of Pannenhoef and Rucphense Forests

Your route starts at Het Wapen van Nassau in Rucphen. In Hoeven you will pass the striking monumental Sint-Jan de Doperkerk from 1929. Further on is De Toekomst, a corn mill from 1862. According to tradition, Sint Willebrord was founded after the Eighty Years' War by Spanish soldiers who had stayed behind. Further on is the Pannenhoef on your route, a nature reserve of swamp forests, wet meadows and fields. Country house De Moeren dates from 1818. Van Gogh painted his first landscapes in the surrounding nature reserve. Then you drive through the Rucphense Bossen, a forest area that extends to the border with Belgium. Originally there was a cover sand ridge with heathlands and drifting sand areas here. The forests that are there now were created when the area was planted with conifers at the beginning of the 20th century.
