Description

Your route starts at Het Wapen van Nassau in Rucphen. In Hoeven you will pass the striking monumental St. John the Baptist Church from 1929. Further on is De Toekomst, a corn mill from 1862. According to tradition, St. Willebrord was founded after the Eighty Years' War by remaining Spanish soldiers. Further along your route is the Pannenhoef, a nature reserve of swamp forests, moist meadows and fields. De Moeren country house dates from 1818. Van Gogh painted his first landscapes in the surrounding nature reserve. Then you drive through the Rucphense Bossen, a forest area that extends to the border with Belgium. Originally there was a cover sand ridge with heathlands and drifting sand areas. The forests that exist today were created when the area was planted with conifers in the early 20th century.
