Description

From your starting point you will soon cycle into the fortified town of Heusden. In this charming little town, all fortress monuments are just a stone's throw away from each other. The fortified town was founded around 1200 near the castle of the Lords of Heusden. Strategically located on the Maas as an important link between the Biesbosch and 's-Hertogenbosch. The fortifications were subjected to a major restoration in 1978, and you have a beautiful view of them when you cycle along the canals. Further on, get off at Brasserie de Laegt in rural Almkerk! House Babyloniënbroek is also a beautiful sight on your route. The cellar vault, the oldest part of the house, was only discovered during the 1975 restoration. The foundations date from the second half of the fourteenth century and are still clearly visible.
