Tour of Biesbosch and Werkendam

Your route starts at Brasserie de Laegt in rural Almkerk. From here you can make a nice trip to De Biesbosch, one of the few freshwater areas in the world where there is an ebb and flow. You reach the area via a ferry across the Steurgat, always fun! From the dike you have beautiful views over the many waters and meadows. If you are lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the osprey and white-tailed eagle that occasionally come to hunt here. A beautiful cycle path along the Nieuwe Merwede offers beautiful views over the river. A little further on you will come across Fort Steurgat, part of the New Dutch Waterline. It was built in 1881, at the end of the Merwede. Get off in the nice fortified town of Werkendam!
