Tour of Sneek, Terherne and Grou

Your route starts at Café Dorpshuis Boazumer Mjitte. A real village café, with a beautiful terrace! You will soon cycle to the old center of Sneek. This was the capital of Friesland from 1498 to 1500 and was the first city in Friesland to be completely walled. The Water Gate is a beautiful monument here. There are many old mansions on the Kleinzand, some of which were built around 1790 in the Louis XVI style. You continue along the Sneekermeer. Terherne (or Terhorne) is located on the corner of a reclaimed land from the twelfth century. The children's book series De Kameleon is said to have been set here. Grou is a beautiful old town on the Pikmeer, where you can admire the Romanesque thirteenth-century St. Peter's Church. Only the gatehouse from 1603 remains of the Jongema State.
