Landgoed Wellenseind is a relatively young estate with special features. The variation in landscape is exceptional. The meandering brooks Reusel and Raamloop, which flow together in the northern part, are embedded between cover sand ridges and wooded shifting sands and form the core of the whole. The wetlands, rebates and water systems in the stream valleys are the other jewels. The biodiversity of flora and fauna in the area is particularly high.
Wellenseind has been developed since 1915. The old agricultural landscape, with its fields, meadows and heaths, was gradually transformed into a varied forest area where the emphasis was mainly on hunting, fishing and, to a lesser extent, wood production. However, many elements still remind of the old agricultural past, such as the plot layout, the sheepfold and the system of roads and paths.
The buildings bear witness to modesty and austerity. No large villas, no stately avenues, but a farm that served as a country house. Semi-paved roads connect the different parts of the estate. Wellenseind is not designed to show off, but must enjoy its scenic variation and historical character. The estate is regarded as a well-preserved area, where almost all old Kempen landscape types come together in a relatively small area (130 ha).
Besides the special fauna you will also encounter animals. Red cattle, a fairly rare breed in the Netherlands, graze in various places. A flock of sheep and a number of Dutch land goats also live on the estate.
Meeting center Voor Anker forms the multifunctional gateway to the Wellenseind estate. Here you can enjoy a snack or drink both indoors and outdoors. There is also a shop with a wide range of regional products.
Several marked hiking trails start from the meeting center. This route is the longest (brown-red) route.
