Walking route De Velner Castle in Salland

Your route starts at Jorink Bakkerij - Lunchroom - IJssalon. From Raalte you will take a nice walk through the low-lying part of Salland. Your route leads you to Kasteel De Velner, the location of a historic manor house in the hamlet of Tijenraan. It was founded in 1382. The name of the area is Velnerhoek, referring to the former manor house that stood here. The old building is currently used as a farm, but the house was already mentioned on a list of vassals in 1380. In 1838 the original building was demolished; only the driveway and part of the canals have been preserved. Those canals are still clearly visible, otherwise there is only a farm on the site of the left building house from the Middle Ages.
