This route takes you through the region around the Bergumermeer. Here you can enjoy the tranquility, the beautiful old villages and the characteristic landscape of the Friese Wouden.Friese WoudenEnjoy a coffee with apple pie or lunch at Wegrestaurant Twijsel before you drive further into Twijsel. Here you can see, among other things, the medieval St. Peter's Church. In the outlying area you cycle through the Friese Wouden, a real cycling gem. You will find here a succession of small-scale forest, hedgerows, heaths, grasslands and winding streams. That's a nice way to relax!Frisian villagesApart from Twijzel you will pass through a few other Frisian villages. Such as through Sumar: the village where the Bintje potato variety was invented in 1905 by crossing two other varieties. In Eastermar and Bergum you are briefly reminded of the atmosphere of bygone times through the old head and neck farms. The cruciform church on the outskirts of Bergum originally dates from the thirteenth century. Back at Wegrestaurant Twijzel you can enjoy something delicious at your leisure.
