Historical monuments in Steenwijk and surroundings

In the center you can still clearly see the contours of the old city moat and parts of the old city wall. Steenwijk is located on the border of several moraines and the low moor area of Giethoorn. Soon you cycle through farmland with beautiful large farms. You also cycle past a number of windmills. Halfway through the route you pass Meppel. The city has many sights left from its rich trading past. A little further you cycle past a beautiful water tower from 1883. In the village of Nijeveen is mill De Sterrenberg, which was brought from Germany to the Netherlands in 1977. It is the only windmill in the Netherlands with a compass rose on the hood for automatic windrowing.
