Tour of the Maasvallei River Park and the Molenplas tree monument

Your route starts at Koffiehuis & Brasserie het IJzerenbos. The Maas forms the border between Dutch and Belgian Limburg for about 40 kilometers: the Grensmaas. This area has been renamed RivierPark Maasvallei. Both Limburgs hope to be able to better protect nature with this. The landscape consists of a beautiful series of agricultural fields, river arms, river banks, stream channels, gravel pools and floodplains. From the saddle you can optimally enjoy the peace and the beautiful views over the Maas. The Molenplas was created by gravel extraction. Along the banks there is now plenty of natural beauty to be found. You will see shrubs such as hawthorn, but also small forests of willows and alders. Take a break at the tree monument: black oak trunks that were buried by Maas gravel 2000 years ago and came to the surface during gravel extraction!
