Narrow roads lead you time and again to surprising views on top of the hill. Gulpen is known for its striking church tower, which once housed the St. Peter's Church. Just outside Gulpen, you cycle past Groenendaal: a large nineteenth-century farm that was once a castle. Via the pleasant Noorbeek, you cycle to Mheer, once voted one of the ten most beautiful villages in the Netherlands. For example, you will see the seventeenth-century St. Lambertus Church, with the fourteenth-century Mheer Castle behind it. You cycle back via the Bemelerberg and Sint Geertruid. In Bemelen, you will see several monumental farms. It will not surprise you that they are built of marl, because in this region you will regularly come across a marl quarry.
