Sheep route Oudeschild, Den Burg and Den Hoorn

Your route starts at EuroParcs Resort De Koog and takes you past the lovely Den Burg, Den Hoorn and Oudeschild. Texel is a real sheep island: there are as many sheep as people, almost 14,000. In the spring, many thousands more lambs will be born on the small-scale farms on the rolling 'old land' of Texel. The animals find protection from the wind in sheep pens and garden walls. If you happen to see a sheep lying on its back, warn the nearest farmer. Such 'rolling over' is very dangerous: if a sheep cannot get up, the animal will sooner or later die because its metabolism comes to a standstill. This can be within an hour, sometimes after 24 hours. So keep an eye!
