Alkmaar, North Holland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 2809619
Provided by: Groots Genieten
This route takes you - via the beautiful old Alkmaar! - along the most beautiful and historic farms of the Beemster World Heritage Site. Take a break at the church of the De Noordeinder Vermaning Foundation. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the Mennonites formed the largest population group here. They did not have trained preachers, but teachers or admonishers. In the former fishing village of De Rijp, history has been beautifully preserved. A good example of this is the old Town Hall where the VVV is now located. Cycle through polder landscapes and look out over the old and new land of the Schermer and the Beemster. Via the Uitgeestermeer you cycle to the pleasant Castricum. Here you dive into the North Holland Dune Reserve, back to square one.
