Description

Cycling route butterflies in three nature reserves in Drenthe

Whether you encounter butterflies depends on the time of year. But this tour is also worthwhile in winter or autumn. You pass through three areas of Natuurmonumenten: the Dwingelderveld, the Holtingerveld and the DrentsFriese Wold. Dwingelderveld National Park is the largest wet heathland area in Western Europe. You cycle through the leafy forests with fens and extensive heathland where flocks of sheep graze. Quite a few butterfly species flutter in this rich nature. But if you don't come across anything, you can always stop along the way at the butterfly paradise Papiliorama in Havelte. This is a piece of tropical jungle in Drenthe that was created especially for exotic butterflies. Hundreds of butterflies from different parts of the world search for nectar among the many flowers every day
