Tour of Lutterzand, Springendal and Ootmarsum

One of the first churches in Twente was built in Ootmarsum around 770, and the town was given city rights in 1300. The emerging industry has passed over Ootmarsum, so the center has remained authentic. Take a coffee break nearby at Restaurant Hotel Wyllandrie! Then you cycle through the Springendal, a picturesque nature reserve. Just before the end point you cycle straight through the Lutterzand. Sand drifts, heathlands and forests with birches and oaks that are intersected by the Dinkel. This ancient river winds its way through the Lutterzand and moves half a meter every year, pushing through the sand. The steep banks along the stream serve as a nesting place for the sand martin. Due to the special composition of the Lutterzand, the area was designated as a geological monument in 2007.
