Tour of Lutterzand, Springendal and Ootmarsum

The route starts at South American Restaurant Las Banderas. In Ootmarsum, one of the first churches in Twente was built around 770, and in 1300 the town was granted city rights. The emerging industry has bypassed Ootmarsum, which is why the centre has remained authentic. Then you cycle through the Springendal, a picturesque nature reserve. Just before the end point, you cycle straight through the Lutterzand. Sand drifts, heathlands and forests with birch and oak trees that are intersected by the Dinkel. This ancient river winds its way through the Lutterzand and moves half a metre every year, pushing through the sand. The steep banks along the stream serve as a nesting place for the sand martin. Due to the special composition of the Lutterzand, the area was designated a geological monument in 2007.
