Tour of Koningshoeven and Oisterwijkse Bossen en Vennen

Via Biest-Houtakker you drive to Koningshoeven Abbey, a Trappist monastery that was founded in 1881. You can stock up on something tasty in the abbey shop. After a beautiful rural loop through Moergestel, you cycle past the lush swamp forests, overgrown fields and mysterious fens of the Oisterwijk forests. The songbirds guide you through the fairytale landscape. Dead wood and fallen trees are left behind as a breeding ground for ferns, mushrooms and small insects. These attract other mammals, which enjoy these delicacies. The birds are not only well represented in the trees; Grebes, cormorants and various duck species also skim, swim and dive on and over the water. Special aquatic plants such as shore herb, marsh deer hay and rare desmids complete the idyllic picture.
