Description

This cycle route is a water-rich route on the outskirts of Rotterdam. Starting at the Kralingse Plas, you drive along the Bergsche Voorplas, through Hillegersberg, past the Bergsche Bos, the Rotte and via the Kralingse Plas back to the starting point. It is an extremely suitable route for the cargo bike (or bicycle with child seats) because you pass a lot of kid-proof hotspots along the way.

You cycle the route in about 2 hours, but it is of course fun for children to stop a few times along the way, because otherwise they just sit still. However, if you only have half a day, our experience is that 1 or 2 stops are the maximum.

It is useful to be well prepared, then there is a greater chance that it will remain a party for everyone. Make sure you have enough drinks, snacks, sunscreen, a first aid kit, diapers and perhaps a ball or other entertainment for a picnic, etc.

The hotspots along the way:
77.
Beautiful stretch along the Kralingse Plas
83.
-Brasserie Taste with a beautiful terrace (right of the roundabout)
-If you turn right at the roundabout you will come to a beautiful recreation area with a sunbathing lawn on the lake, including an outdoor swimming pool for the little ones.
-Turn right at the traffic lights and you can also visit the Stoomdepot Museum, located in a classic locomotive shed. This shed has five tracks with steam locomotives. The steam depot is indicated on bicycle signage, but you deviate from the route by about a kilometer.
84.
-The bridge over the Rotte is steep! If you have a heavy cargo bike, it is better to cycle to the traffic light and turn right, then you are on the'wrong side\\\' of the Rotte, but at Café Malle Babbe, you are back on the road again.
-Café Malle Babbe, not very kid-proof, but great for a bathroom break and to recharge.
-There are picnic benches here and there along the Bergse Voorplas, a great spot for a pit stop with a beautiful view over the lake.
-There is a nice duck pond at the Prinsemolen, around the bridge near the mill
88.
Very beautiful and lovely intersection.
-Just after this junction, over the bridge, there is a small playground on your right
-Shopping street of Hillegersberg, with favorite hotspots being the Bonte Koe where you can buy delicious chocolate and the children's clothing store Pomme de Jus.
-Attention, don't miss it!! Route continues after the road, via Berglustlaan!
87.
-200 meters to the left of junction 87 is Plaswijckpark, a park with indoor and outdoor playgrounds, water playground, a petting zoo/zoo, go-kart park and much more. This is suitable for even the little ones. In 2014 it was declared the best outing in South Holland.
-Mangerie de Eethoek, a cozy restaurant with a large sheltered terrace. Their menu includes pancakes and toasted sandwiches, so it's a treat for the kids.
-If you have a three-wheel cargo bike, it is best to deviate from the route at the roundabout at the end of the Jasonweg and go to the right, onto the Molenlaan and after about 300m to the left onto the gravel road, to get to the route to continue. (this is because you have to pass a gate on the regular route, which may be just too narrow for the tricycle).
11.
-At the beginning of the Lage Bergsche Bosch, just after the riding school, you have a field with picnic benches. If you deviate a little bit to the left from the route, there is a large field with a swing and a climbing and clambering object, the ideal stop for a picnic.
-The junction route is not the most beautiful trip through the forest, if you want to see more of the forest, it is nice to take a walk or make a detour yourself. If you eventually arrive at Rottebanddreef and turn left, you will automatically end up at junction 9.
10.
-Restaurant the Weapon of Vidaa; sustainable and healthy food based on the 'blue zones', the 5 zones in the world where people live the longest in good health. Nice location for a traditionally prepared sandwich or a cup of hot Tony Chocolonly milk.
-Outdoor Valley, is a unique location and starting point for an unforgettable outing in nature, such as canoeing, pedal boating or scootering. You must buy a ticket online in advance. The outdoor cafe has been an official cycling cafe since 2010, which means that they have extra facilities for cycling enthusiasts. For example, you can inflate your tires or charge your electric bicycle while enjoying your coffee.
9.
-De Blijde Wei petting zoo. Well maintained, fun treasure hunts, a playground and a bar where you can get sandwiches and coffee, among other things.
-Restaurant de Prins van Terbregge. Fresh products every day and a beautiful terrace on the water.
-Snack bar Broodje Willem; nice stop for a delicious ice cream, for example!
89.
-The first kilometer from this junction is not the most charming part of the route. But it ends nicely with a piece of forest.
-Deer park with fallow deer and peacocks and also some aviaries.
-Organic cafeteria de Eekhoorn; good fries, super burgers, but also fresh endive soup and many organic and vegetarian products.
-Large playground with climbing castle, slides, swing object, sandbox picnic area. Located 100 meters from the route, behind the Squirrel.
-Restaurant de Tuin, a well-known restaurant with a large terrace on the Kralingse Plas and small playground for the kids.
