The Roerdal tour starts at the tourist information center in Melick and takes us via the Ohe\\\'s (lower areas) of Melick and Herkenbosch through the Roerdal to the foot of the National Park\"De Meinweg\\\". The Roer rises at an altitude of approximately 662 m near Botrange, the highest point of the High Fens in the Belgian Ardennes, and ultimately ends at an altitude of approximately 17 meters in the Meuse near Roermond. The difference in height is the cause of the fast current. In a summer day with low discharge, this is still approximately 25 m3 per second. At high water in winter this can rise to 115 m3 /second.
After filling a number of reservoirs in Germany, the Roer passes the Dutch border near Vlodrop. Canoeing is possible on this river. In neighboring Germany there are also opportunities for whitewater canoeing.
In the Herkenbosscher Broek we see the higher Meinweg area.
Roerdal and Meinweg area are both high-quality nature reserves with (inter)national protection status as National Park and international Natura 2000 area. We pass the village of Herkenbosch and drive on the border between high and low to the village of Melick. We pass one of the most beautiful farm campsites in our country."van Kempenhof\\\" was the most beautiful farm campsite in the Netherlands. Peace, space, regularity and happiness is our motto. Enjoy this during this ride.
