Tour of Oudemirdum and IJsselmeer

Your route starts at Camping de Waps, in the middle of the beautiful Fonteinbos on the edge of Oudemirdum. In the gently sloping Gaasterland you can walk through beautiful nature reserves. Such as the Jolderenbos, one of the oldest forests here. The first trees were planted 300 years ago by esquire Van Swinderen on a ridge southwest of Oudemirdum. In addition to trees, the broad spiny fern and common Solomon's seal also grow there. At the edge of the forest you will pass the monumental Gaaikemabank, a stone bench in Amsterdam school style from 1925. You have a beautiful view over the fields in the Zuiderfennenpolder and the IJsselmeer. The bench was a gift from the residents of Gaasterland to former mayor Gaaikema: he saved the local forests from the axe. Take a break at Rijsterbosch along the way!
