The Kwade Hoek route

On the former island of Goeree, the wind has blown up sand along the high tide line into beach walls and dunes. The sea penetrated far behind the dunes via tidal inlets and deposited silt there, creating sand flats. In the Middle Ages, the farmers embanked these sandbanks. Sand and clay silted up and formed soils outside the dikes, which eventually dried up. A new sea wall was built and the cycle started again.
