Hiking on the Herikerberg

You can walk straight into nature from Landhuishotel and Bistro Herikerberg. The first part of the route takes you through the woods that officially belong to the estate of Kasteel Weldam. This nature reserve serves as an ecological connecting zone between Germany and the Sallandse Heuvelrug. From the forest you walk into the gently sloping agricultural landscape of fields, meadows and small wooded areas. Just past junction U49 you will pass a reconstruction of a hiding place in the woods. Six people went into hiding here from May 1943 to October 1944. Further on you walk over De Hulpe, a moraine of 40 meters high. Here is a replica of an old chapel. You walk back through the forest to the starting point. Time for a nice meal and a drink.
