Description
From the Landhuishotel and Bistro Herikerberg you drive through the gently rolling Twente scenic landscape to Diepenheim. On the edge of this village you pass Huis te Diepenheim, a centuries-old manor. Further afield is Warmelo Castle, whose gardens can be visited. On the other side of Diepenheim you can take a look at two more manor houses: Pekkedam and Nijenhuis Castle. Further on is Weldam Castle, whose estate officially extends to the Herikerberg. Here too, the gardens are accessible for a fee. Get off at Spoolder Proeven & Proosten in Bentelo! You cycle a bit along the Twentekanaal, a waterway from 1938 that connects Almelo, Enschede and Hengelo to the national network of rivers and canals. You cycle back through the rural area of Goor to the Herikerberg.
