Castle route around Diepenheim

From Landhuishotel and Bistro Herikerberg you can take a beautiful bike ride through the gently sloping Twente bocage landscape. First you drive to Diepenheim. On the edge of this village you pass Huis te Diepenheim, an ancient manor. Further on is Castle Warmelo, whose gardens can be visited. On the other side of Diepenheim, you can take a look at two more havezates: Pekkedam and Kasteel Nijenhuis. Further on is Weldam Castle, whose estate officially extends to the Herikerberg. Here too, the gardens are accessible for a fee. You cycle along the Twentekanaal, a waterway from 1938 that connects Almelo, Enschede and Hengelo to the national network of rivers and canals. Through the outskirts of Goor you cycle back to the Herikerberg.
