Round Fort on the Drecht and Zijdelmeer

This route takes you along the most beautiful places in Uithoorn and the surrounding area. First you walk along the quay of the Amstel. A little later you walk on the edge of Uithoorn along one of the fortifications from the Defense Line of Amsterdam: Fort aan de Drecht. This fort was completed in 1911 and received only one casemate, although two was the standard number. The armor stand in front of the main building is unique. This shelter offers space for two machine guns and is covered by a steel plate 20 centimeters thick. Take the time to look around here! Then you walk along the banks of the Zijdelmeer along reeds and willows. You will find a complete wetland forest with a wilderness of alders, willows and a few hay meadows.
