Tour of Fort aan de Drecht and Zijdelmeer

This route takes you along the most beautiful places in Uithoorn and the surrounding area. First you walk along the quay of the Amstel. A little later you will walk on the outskirts of Uithoorn along one of the fortifications from the Defense Line of Amsterdam: Fort aan de Drecht. This fort was completed in 1911 and only had one casemate, although two was the standard number. The armored position in front of the main building is unique. This shelter offers space for two machine guns and is covered by a 20 centimeter thick steel plate. Take the time to look around here! Then you walk on the shore of the Zijdelmeer along reeds and willows. You will find a complete forest with a wilderness of alders, willows and some meadows.
