Ommet Markelo

In and around Markelo it is nice to walk. First you walk out of Markelo. You take a detour through a gently sloping landscape of fields, meadows, small woods and streams. Here and there you can still see a characteristic Saxon farm. It is wonderfully quiet in this region, ideal for clearing your head and chatting with your fellow hikers. Part of the route is on unpaved paths, so make sure you have sturdy walking shoes. You walk a bit along the Holtdijksbeek, after which you end up in the hamlet of Pothoek. Back in Markelo you can take a few more monuments with you. You pass De Hoop, a windmill from 1839. Further on is the Martinuskerk from 1840. At Grand Cafe De Kroon it's time for a delicious meal.
