Tour of Elp and Elper catchment area

Walking in Drenthe guarantees nature and culture! This is also the case with this detour. First you walk a bit through the Elper river basin. Make sure you wear sturdy and waterproof shoes, because you will be walking through a pristine stream valley! This Natura 2000 area also consists of hedgerows, bushes and old grasslands that are not fertilized: a rarity in the Netherlands. You will see special plants here, such as the endangered dioecious sedge. In addition to the natural beauty, you can also enjoy the silence and fresh air here. The second part of the walk takes you on a car-free road past fields and meadows. You will also walk a bit through Elp, an esdorp where you will see some beautiful old farms. The route ends with something tasty at Pancake Restaurant De Strohoed.
