Walking around Boterhuys

Your route starts at Camping Ons Wijland. You take a nice tour through the centuries-old Boterhuispolders, close to Leiden. This peat meadow area is farmland, but walking paths, cycle paths, canoe routes, picnic areas and fishing spots have been created for you to enjoy it. In the southern part, soil was excavated so that new, wet nature can be created. The nature-friendly banks gave new animal and plant species the opportunity to develop. Information objects tell you more about it. You will soon see the Zijllaanmolen, a polder mill from 1850. You walk along the river De Zijl to the Kagerplassen. The oldest water sports area in the Netherlands! There are always many boats to see on the water here, you immediately get a holiday feeling. On the Zijldijk you see the Boterhuismolen from 1744, opposite Boterhuiseiland.
