Description
A varied route (partly paved, partly unpaved) through the beautiful stream valley of the Dommel, including a surprising boardwalk.
The Dommel forms the western border of the municipality of Waalre.
There are still many agricultural fields on the east side of the stream. In addition, there are various pieces of nature. A small nature reserve along the Dommel is the Heuvelse Putten. This area is owned by Natuurmonumenten and is not freely accessible.
South of the Heuvelse Putten, a plot of agricultural land was transformed into new nature in 2020. Pools have been dug out and a boardwalk runs through them. At the Heuvelse Putten there is a cyclist and pedestrian bridge over the Dommel, making the Dommelbeemden (a meadow is a piece of grassland/pasture in a stream valley) accessible.
Large parts of this area can be very swampy, especially in winter.
On the west side of the Dommel are the Kempense Plassen, also called the Philips ponds.
There are three fishing ponds (13 hectares in total) on the site (16 hectares) that are owned by the Philips Angling Association. The whole is a green oasis of peace and natural beauty and is known as one of the most beautiful fishing areas in the area. The site is in principle only accessible to members, but the gate is often open. It is worth taking a look and possibly taking a short, extra walk around the fish ponds!
