Westerwolde, Groningen, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 2508886

The village of Sellingen and its surroundings (Westerwolde) is one
source of inspiration for many artists, painters, writers,
poets and photographers. Characteristic of this environment
are the meandering river Ruiten Aa and the largest
heathland of the province of Groningen, just south
from Sellingen.
About 10,000 years ago, the area was already used by fishermen
and hunters inhabited. For a long time the area has been surrounded by
marshes (Boertanger Moor). Only at the beginning of the
last century it was mined. The legacies of the
mining are still clearly visible. Camp De Beetse and
camp Slangenborg are the most important of these
examples, as is the hand-dug Ruiten Aa canal. The traditionally isolated area is also one
beautiful living and living area.
In 2021, Sellingen would be French for the 30th time
breathe during the Montmartre Sellingen event. A
art market where about 100 artists exhibit their art every year
show artworks to more than 5000 visitors.
Because the festival unfortunately could not take place, has
Montmartre Sellingen came up with this alternative. A cycling route
of almost 22 kilometers and a walking route of approx
10 kilometers along a number of works of art and
places of interest in and around Sellingen.
Montmartre Sellingen wishes you a lot of cycling pleasure!
