Tour of Savelsbos, Geuldal and Valkenburg

Your cycle route starts in Sibbe. At the village of Wolfshuis you will pass the Van Tienhovenmolen from 1855. It is the only mill in the Netherlands that is built entirely of marl. After Cadier and Keer you will cross the elongated Savelsbos, in this sloping forest you will mainly see deciduous trees such as summer oak, beech, common maple and horse chestnut. In Gronsveld, stop at De Kwizzenjèr. Further on you will pass the castle of Sint Gerlach, which was built in the twelfth century as a monastery. It was not until the nineteenth century that the monastery was converted into a castle. Then you will cycle through Ingendael: a wonderfully quiet nature reserve with flowery grasslands through which the Geul meanders. Stop in Valkenburg to soak up the atmosphere and perhaps visit the ruins of Valkenburg Castle.
