Description

From the starting point you drive straight into the largest wet heathland area in Western Europe: Dwingelderveld National Park. In the Dwingelderveld Visitor Center you can learn everything about this special area. On the way back you will pass the former manor of Oldengaerde. The first mention of the estate dates from 1420. In 1717 the manor was extensively renovated with a new facade. The second house was also built around this time. There is a beautiful garden around the houses, which was designed after the garden of Versailles. You cycle back along the terraces on the Brink, the beautifully restored green village square of Dwingeloo. Take a look at the fifteenth-century St. Nicholas Church, with its striking spire in the shape of an onion.
