Round Beers

This long walk goes through the Land van Cuijk, a wonderful region with style, in the armpit of the Maas. The landscape is varied, with beautiful forests, lovely streams, vast fields and beautiful orchards. This variety is largely due to the presence of a number of old estates.

Distinguished families used to pride themselves on making the nature around their estate as attractive as possible. They cultivated the forests and ensured that the arable lands became handy to work with. The construction of wooded banks around the fields, to stop sand but also animals, was part of this. Due to the great variety of woods, meadows and fields with hedgerows in between, this type of landscape has great scenic value. The estates are lined up these days, which is good news for the walker. Today you will enjoy a tour of two of these delightful estates.

]After you have left De Barendonk, you will soon walk across the next estate: Het Ossebroek. This estate is approximately 120 hectares in size, located on the road between Beers and Haps and consists of fertile lands, forests, wooded banks and a few farms. The core of this area is formed by the old farm annex hunting lodge and the nearby forester's house. Due to the rich variety in vegetation, many different animals live on the estate: deer and badgers, but also countless species of birds.

The route continues towards the cozy village of Beers. But first you pass the remains of De Hoop windmill. The round stone tower mill was built in 1850 but was destroyed by fire. Now only the hull remains. Stichting Molen'De Hoop\\\' Beers is committed to the restoration of this mill. Beers is a real farming village, built around the Sint-Lambertuskerk, a 19th-century cruciform basilica with a 15th-century church tower.
