This loop walk introduces you to Hoek van Holland and the surrounding nature. First you walk past the Berghaven, built at the end of the nineteenth century. Further on you walk along the boulevard along the Nieuwe Waterweg. On the horizon you see the ports of Rotterdam. On the beach you can get a breath of fresh air and go for a paddle in nice weather. You walk back to the starting point through the Hoekse Bosjes. Here you can chill out at IJssalon Saam op de Hoek, after which you can continue walking. You pass a series of monumental workers' houses from 1927, further on you walk through the Staelduinse Bos. This nature reserve is located on a remnant of former estuary dunes and was established as an estate in the nineteenth century. You can walk back to the end point at your leisure: Restaurant Saam Hoek van Holland.

Saam is a cozy restaurant in the heart of Hoek van Holland. Saam represents a new generation and has a completely new formula. The menu includes pancakes, schnitzels and special beers. This makes Saam suitable for families with children and business visitors. You can choose from more than 35 types of pancakes, from classic to innovative. The schnitzels are also to die for. Thanks to the surprising garnishes that the chef makes, one is even tastier than the other. Especially if you combine it with a carefully selected specialty beer! The Berghaven was dug in 1883-1884 for Rijkswaterstaat and pilotage. In 1895 the first steam lifeboat President van Heel came to lie in the harbor. In addition to those three original functions, the Berghaven is now also a staging point for the RET regular service. This Fast Ferry connects Hoek van Holland with several places in the port area of the Maasvlakte.

JJP Oud was the architect of this monument of the Nieuwe Bouwen. This internationally renowned functionalist house was completed in 1927. Oud was a member of the De Stijl artist group, but distanced himself from it in the 1930s because he felt that architecture was given too little space. In 1982 the (workers) houses were renovated, making one of two houses. The last major renovation dates back to 2000. The continuous balconies and the beautiful curves at the corners define the appearance of this example of 'modern' housing construction.
